The original Namica Shirahama is a 40mm Japanese automatic dive watch that stands apart through bright matte dials, angular bead-blasted styling and unusually prominent lume. Fratello’s August 2022 hands-on review found it playful without abandoning practical dive-watch specifications: 200m stated water resistance, sapphire crystal and a Seiko NH38A no-date movement. Namica’s current successor, the Shirahama 2, keeps the same 40mm diameter and 47mm lug-to-lug span but is thinner and uses a Miyota 9039.
What the original Shirahama is like
Fratello’s Vincent Deschamps reviewed the original Shirahama Classic in August 2022, presenting it as a colorful alternative to more familiar dive-watch designs. Its 40mm case has short, angular lugs and a fully bead-blasted finish. A deeply grooved bezel, crown at four o’clock and multi-faceted bracelet give the watch a rugged outline, while dial, hands, rehaut and indices coordinate in color.
The Classic was offered in Blossom Candy, Ultra Blue and Super White. Deschamps noted visual echoes of Squale in the hands and RZE in the angular case, but the bright color choices and heavy lume give the Shirahama its own character. His preference for the styling and his comments about comfort are personal impressions, not measured assessments.

Color and lume are the defining details
The original’s Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9 is applied thickly across the dial, and a substantial section of the bezel also glows. Deschamps reported that the lume stayed charged through the night. That is an individual qualitative observation rather than a standardized brightness or duration test.
The color coordination makes the lume and dial design feel integrated rather than decorative add-ons: hands, rehaut and indices pick up the dial’s palette. The bezel’s lumed section extends that visual treatment to a functional dive-watch element.

How the Shirahama 2 differs
Namica calls the Shirahama 2 a return of its classic sapphire diver, upgraded and redesigned. It preserves the original’s 40mm case diameter, 47mm lug-to-lug measurement, 20mm lug width and stated 200m/660ft water resistance. Its listed case height is 10.9mm plus a 1mm crystal, rather than the original’s 12.7mm thickness.

Namica lists the Shirahama 2 as using a Japanese-made Miyota 9039 and Swiss Super-LumiNova. Its product page describes a quick-release bracelet and an on-the-fly adjustment clasp, details not established for the original in Fratello’s review. The current product page also notes that pictured watches are working prototypes and production units may receive minor enhancements, so its images should not be treated as a guarantee of every production detail.

The original’s 20mm lug width makes a 20mm strap a plausible alternative for styling or replacement, and Namica lists 20mm straps among its accessories. Before ordering, confirm whether you own the original or Shirahama 2 and check the strap’s attachment and clasp interface against that exact watch.
