Before you start: identify your watch’s controls
“Wandering hour” describes how the time is displayed, not a standard control layout. One watch may use a crown with distinct positions; another may separate winding and setting into modes controlled by a bezel and pushers. Follow the manual for your exact model rather than assuming a familiar crown procedure applies.

If the manual is unavailable, identify the model and movement before operating unfamiliar controls. Do not force a crown, bezel, or pusher. The Xeric steps below are an example for the Vendetta II Automatic, not instructions for every wandering-hour watch.
How to wind and set the Xeric Vendetta II Automatic
The Xeric manual identifies the movement as automatic Caliber X2.1 and specifies up to 36 hours of power reserve. For this model, it gives the following sequence:

- Give it an initial wind if needed. Turn the crown clockwise approximately 40 times. The manual says this powers the mainspring; the turn count is specific to this watch.
- Unscrew the crown. Move it to the hand-wind position.
- Set the wandering-hour display. Pull the crown to the first click and turn it to set the wandering-hour disc.
- Return the crown. Depress and release it to move back to the hand-wind position.
- Lock the crown. Press while turning clockwise to screw it into the locked position. The manual says this is required to maintain proper water resistance.
These steps and specifications are from the Vendetta II Automatic instructions; do not transfer them to another watch just because it also displays wandering hours.
Why another wandering-hour watch may work differently
The Angles campaign FAQ describes a bezel-and-pusher control system rather than the Xeric crown sequence. In normal mode, the integrated rotating bezel is used for winding. Unlocking the setting mode with the pushers allows time adjustment; the FAQ explicitly says that setting time does not wind the watch. Use the sequence in the Angles Watches FAQ only for the applicable Angles models.

The FAQ lists the Bathymeter with a Miyota 8N24 automatic movement and the Orthrus and Triptera with Miyota 8215 movements, each paired with the maker’s wandering-hour module. It gives approximately 40 hours of power reserve and 5 ATM (50 m) water resistance for those campaign models. Those figures are model specifications, not general characteristics of wandering-hour watches.

A different movement’s manual can illustrate that crown positions and winding methods vary, but it is not a substitute for your watch’s instructions. For instance, Grand Seiko’s Caliber 9R01 guidance describes winding a stopped watch by slowly turning its crown clockwise in the normal position and distinguishes crown clicks for adjustment and setting. That procedure is for Caliber 9R01, not a wandering-hour watch unless its own manual says so. Grand Seiko Caliber 9R01 instructions
