What is new about the 2026 Western Cushion?
The headline change is proportion. The new cushion-shaped case measures 38mm across and 9.3mm thick, according to Hodinkee. The earlier Western Cushion documented by Ralph Lauren measured 42mm by 10.6mm. That reduction makes the 2026 watch a more conventional daily-wear size while preserving the engraved, subtly aged sterling-silver case and Western styling.

The design language remains deliberately artisanal: engraved silver, hand-finished details, burnished or tooled leather, Roman and Arabic numerals, and Breguet-style hands. Ralph Lauren describes the Western aesthetic as having “a rugged elegance and authenticity,” an approach that explains why the case is aged rather than mirror-polished.

RL514 movement and practical specifications
The self-winding RL514 is made by Piaget exclusively for Ralph Lauren. It displays hours, minutes and central seconds. Hodinkee lists a 24.8mm movement diameter, 3 Hz operating frequency, 26 jewels and an approximately 40-hour power reserve; Ralph Lauren’s earlier Western collection material gives the same approximate reserve and jewel count.

The 50-metre rating is suitable for everyday splashes but does not turn the watch into a sports model. There is no reported lume, so nighttime reading depends on ambient light, and the three-hand layout avoids adding complications to an already decorative case.

How it compares with the earlier 42mm Western Cushion
The previous official Western collection watch established the formula: a 42mm by 10.6mm cushion case in engraved and aged sterling silver, burnished vachetta leather, mixed Roman and Arabic numerals, Breguet-style hands and the RL514 caliber. The 2026 model is not a new movement platform or a radical complication; it is a compact reinterpretation of that design.

Choose turquoise for the strongest Western character
Turquoise is the defining statement piece. Because it is natural stone, its color and visible character can vary. It also costs $3,000 more than either lacquer version, so the premium buys material expression rather than a different movement or case.
Choose off-white lacquer for versatility
Off-white is the lightest dial and the closest to a traditional dress-watch reading. It offers the clearest contrast with the numerals and hands while retaining the collection’s Western detailing.

What to check before buying
- Confirm that the case is the 38mm, 9.3mm-thick 2026 model rather than an earlier 42mm Western Cushion.
- Ask to see the actual turquoise dial if you want to judge its natural pattern and color.
