It comes in Colors and Monochrome versions, each limited to 30 pieces according to Sarpaneva. Its unusual dial combines a rotating hour disc, a shooting-star aperture and luminous artwork; the maker’s product page currently lists the watch as sold out.
Two editions inspired by Comet in Moominland
Sarpaneva designed the Moomin 80 for the 80th anniversary of the Moomin stories. Its dial draws on an illustration from Tove Jansson’s Comet in Moominland, first published in 1946. The dial is built in three parts, with hand-finished and hand-painted details and Super-LumiNova. Monochrome Watches describes ten colors of luminous material across the dial and hand.

The two versions are Colors and Monochrome. Sarpaneva lists 30 pieces per color, while Monochrome Watches’ February 2025 launch report says the total is 60, split evenly between the two treatments. The distinction is visual: the Colors edition uses colored luminous details, while Monochrome presents the artwork in a monochromatic treatment. The sources do not establish a functional difference between them.

How the dial displays the time
The watch does not use a conventional central hour hand. A rotating stainless-steel disc around the edge of the dial displays the hours through stars, while a luminous two-tone hand indicates the minutes. A skeletonized steel shooting-star aperture sits between 11 and 1 o’clock, framing part of the illustration and adding a distinctive opening in the dial.

Availability and the earlier Sarpaneva x Moomin watch
Sarpaneva’s product page currently displays “Sold out.” That status describes the maker’s listing; current stock at retailers and availability on the secondary market have not been established.
The Moomin 80 is distinct from the earlier Sarpaneva x Moomin watch sold under the S.U.F Helsinki name. That separate model was listed as a 100-piece series in four colors and also used a modified Soprod A10. Its official page marks it sold out. The shared Moomin connection and movement do not make the two watches the same edition.
