What makes the X-Series distinctive?
The defining feature is its design: much of the watch’s mechanical movement is visible within an X-shaped framework, rather than hidden behind a conventional dial. The result is a dramatic, busy face that makes the movement part of the watch’s visual identity. If you want a watch that puts its mechanics on display, that is the X-Series’ strongest argument.

The 2021 review by The Gadgeteer describes a dual-shell, suspension-style structure. It also reproduces CIGA’s description of a “patented automated mechanism embedded into a unique X-shaped skeleton.” That is the company’s wording as quoted by the reviewer, not independent confirmation of a patent.
What do the reviewed specifications say?
Specifications vary by version, and the figures below are review-era details rather than a freshly confirmed manufacturer specification sheet. Watch Researcher’s 2022 review lists the Black/Orange variant; Bespoke Unit’s 2025 review covers the Series X Gorilla. Check the exact listing and variant before relying on a measurement or feature.

Bespoke Unit calls the CD-01 “independently developed” as CIGA describes it. That review also compares it with a movement in the brand’s Series Z, but the comparison does not establish who manufactures the movement.
How does it wear and sound?
The X-shaped, open design makes the hands and exposed components compete for attention. Watch Researcher found the hands readable despite the busy face, but said the lume did not last long. The same reviewer reported hearing the movement when holding the watch near the ear, along with a distinctive swirling rotor sound as the wrist moved. Those are individual impressions, not measurements of sound or a test of every unit.

Watch Researcher also said their watch gained a little over a minute after a week of wear. That brief observation is not a controlled accuracy test and should not be treated as a prediction of performance. The Gadgeteer reviewer said their CIGA-supplied sample felt good on the wrist and kept accurate time, but did not provide a quantified test method.
The reported 44 mm case diameter, rising to 48 mm including the crown, may be a substantial presence on the wrist. Those dimensions apply to the Black/Orange version in Watch Researcher’s review; try the exact variant if fit is a concern.

What can you do with its water resistance?
The reviewed models are rated at 3 ATM. That is a limited rating, not a reason to treat the X-Series as a swim or dive watch. Bespoke Unit identified water resistance as the main shortcoming and said the reviewer did not wear it into the water. Watch Researcher’s 2022 review likewise lists 3 ATM for the Black/Orange version. A reviewer’s judgment that a watch is suited to hand-washing is not a general guarantee for water exposure.
Are the included straps enough?
The reviewed packages include more than one strap: sources describe combinations of silicone and fabric, nylon, or NATO-style bands. The Gadgeteer reports nylon and silicone bands in the box and notes a spring-clip change system; other reviews describe quick-release straps. An additional strap is therefore optional, not a necessary part of buying the watch.

If you want a replacement, confirm the exact variant’s lug width and attachment method first. Watch Researcher lists 22 mm for the Black/Orange version, but the reviews do not establish that every X-Series variant uses the same fit.

The reviews support a case for the X-Series as a distinctive, movement-forward design, but not for a market-wide value superlative. They do not provide a current price or stock check, or a like-for-like comparison against other skeleton watches. To judge value at the price you are offered, compare the exact variant’s delivered cost and warranty with alternatives, then weigh the exposed movement and included straps against the case fit, water-resistance needs, and available service information.
