The official specification match for the Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Limited Edition is reference R32147162: a black, 43 mm automatic watch with a monobloc high-tech ceramic case and Rado calibre R808. The available evidence describes its construction and dimensions, but does not establish how it feels or looks on an actual wrist. This is therefore a specification-led look, not a firsthand wearing review.
Which Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Limited Edition is this?
Rado’s specification identifies the black-dial model as reference R32147162. That reference matters: the related R32148162 is the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton, a different watch with a skeleton dial. The details below concern R32147162, not every Captain Cook ceramic edition. Rado’s US collection page shows the broader family, while the specific model information comes from Rado’s R32147162 specification sheet.
What are the case and dial like on paper?
Rado specifies a matte black, monobloc high-tech ceramic case measuring 43.0 × 49.8 × 14.6 mm (width × length × height, as stated in its specification). The bezel is rotating high-tech ceramic, with a laser-structured black ceramic insert. The dial is slightly black-tinted sapphire crystal.
Those dimensions give a useful sense of scale, but they do not settle wrist fit. The 43 mm width and 49.8 mm length are especially relevant for comparing the watch with one you already wear; the 14.6 mm height is worth considering if you prefer a low profile under a cuff. Without an actual wearing test, comfort, perceived size, weight and tactile feel remain unverified.

What movement does Rado specify?
The watch uses Rado calibre R808, an automatic movement with 25 jewels, three hands and an 80-hour power reserve. Rado lists an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring. It also says standard movement testing is extended from three to five positions to pursue higher accuracy. That is Rado’s description of its testing approach, not an independent accuracy result for this particular watch.
What does Rado mean by high-tech ceramic?
Rado describes high-tech ceramic as scratch-resistant, lightweight and silky to the touch, and says it quickly matches body temperature. These are the brand’s material claims, not observations from handling or testing this reference. Scratch resistance should not be read as scratch-proof: no real-world scratch test of R32147162 is established here.

On its Captain Cook Hong Kong Limited Edition page, Rado says it first introduced high-tech ceramic in 1986. The brand describes a process that starts with zirconium oxide mineral powders, injection into precision moulds at around 1,000 bar, and subsequent sintering at 1,450°C. Rado gives the resulting material hardness as 1,250 on the Vickers scale. These are manufacturer-published process and material figures, not independently verified comparative test results. Rado’s Hong Kong page provides that material context.
