Some REC watches incorporate reclaimed material from the vehicles or aircraft they celebrate, but the whole watch is not necessarily made from a donor machine. The material and component vary by model. REC’s Core Collection is automotive-inspired but does not use repurposed materials, according to the brand.
What are REC watches made from?
REC says its name stands for “Recover, Recycle, Reclaim”: the brand recovers material from historic machines, reuses selected parts in watch components, and connects each watch to the donor machine’s story. In the examples below, the reclaimed material is used in a dial component—not throughout the entire watch.
REC says its watches are designed in Denmark and crafted in Switzerland. The company reports that it was founded in 2014 by Jonathan Kamstrup and Christian Mygh. These are brand-reported details, as are the provenance claims for individual models. REC’s About page explains its concept and background.
Which REC models use material from vehicles or aircraft?

P51-03: Mustang parts in the dial
REC ties the P51-03 to first- and second-generation Ford Mustangs. Its product page says reclaimed Mustang parts are used to craft the dial, and that identifying details connect the watch to a specific donor car. The page was listed as sold out when collected, so do not assume it is currently available.
Habu: SR-71 titanium in the lower dial
The Habu’s reclaimed component is specifically its lower dial, which REC says contains grade 6 titanium from SR-71 61-7956. The case is separate, made from grade 2 titanium. REC’s product page says that aircraft completed 1,454 flights and logged 3,967.5 flight hours, describing these as more than any other SR-71; the page does not state a year for the figure.

What are the Habu’s specifications and terms?
REC lists the following specifications for the Habu. They are manufacturer specifications, not independently tested results.
- Case: 40 mm, grade 2 titanium.
- Movement: manual-winding Sellita SW270-1 M.
- Power reserve: 45 hours.
- Crystal: sapphire.
- Water resistance: 5 ATM/50 m.
When accessed, the Habu page showed a USD 2,395 price and a USD 1,995 preorder price, delivery from February 2027, a three-year warranty, and 30-day returns. These are time-sensitive terms displayed by REC; check the current product page for price, stock, delivery estimate, warranty, and return conditions before buying.

Does every REC watch use reclaimed material?
No. REC distinguishes its limited or DNA-style collections, which may incorporate original salvaged material, from the Core Collection. The Core line draws on automotive designs and eras but, according to REC, does not use repurposed materials. The brand’s history describes earlier watches using salvaged Morris Mini steel, followed by Mustang, Porsche, aircraft, motorcycle, and other vehicle-related projects; those examples do not establish that every watch in those categories uses donor material. - Movement and functions: Confirm the movement type and any features relevant to how you wear the watch.
- Fit and construction: Review case dimensions and material, crystal, and water resistance.
