Its underlying proposition is refinement rather than a new movement or case architecture: a 40.2 mm stainless-steel watch with Seiko’s automatic 6R55 calibre and a manufacturer-stated power reserve of approximately 72 hours. The edition is limited to 3,000 pieces. The design descriptions below are attributed to Seiko and Monochrome Watches; this article does not claim an independent wrist test.
What is the SPB529?
The SPB529, reference SPB529J1 on Seiko’s US product page, is the Presage Classic Series Upcycled Leather Strap Limited Edition. Seiko lists an edition size of 3,000 pieces. Its defining change is visual and material: a light-brown, Shiracha-inspired dial and a strap described by Monochrome Watches as made using REGAL shoemaking overcuts. That strap-material connection is the review’s description, not a claim that REGAL sells the watch or offers a replacement strap.
Seiko describes the Classic Series as drawing on colors, materials and textures from traditional Japanese crafts, with curved, textured dials and hands and indexes shaped to follow the dial. The brand’s overview says: “With the Classic Series, Presage draws from colors, materials, and textures of traditional Japanese crafts to express the soft and gentle side of Japanese design.” On the SPB529, the warm dial palette and curved presentation carry that series identity forward.
What stands out about the design?
A warm dial rather than a new case design
Denis Peshkov’s hands-on review for Monochrome Watches, published November 4, 2025, describes the dial as a light-brown gradient inspired by Shiracha, a traditional Japanese tea color. The effect gives the watch a softer, warmer character than a plain white or black dial, while the curved dial and shaped hands and indexes connect it to the broader Classic Series design language.

Monochrome characterizes the SPB529 as a continuation of the series’ core architecture with a new palette and strap concept. That is the useful way to understand the model: its distinction comes from the combination of color and strap, not a claimed technical reinvention.
The limited upcycled leather strap
The Seiko product page lists the band material as cow leather. Monochrome’s review adds that the strap uses fine shoemaking overcuts from REGAL. This gives the limited edition a material story beyond its dial, though the available product specifications do not quantify how much material is reused or describe a different environmental certification.

How does the SPB529 wear on paper?
Seiko lists a 40.2 mm case diameter, 46.0 mm lug-to-lug length and 13.0 mm thickness, with 20 mm between the lugs. Those measurements provide a more useful starting point for estimating fit than diameter alone: the 46 mm lug-to-lug figure indicates the span across the wrist, while the 13 mm thickness contributes to how tall the watch sits. Actual fit depends on wrist shape, strap adjustment and personal preference; the listed figures do not establish how it will feel on a particular wrist.
The case is stainless steel, the crystal is dual-curved sapphire with an inner anti-reflective coating, and Seiko lists a three-fold clasp with push-button release. The published weight is 82.8 g. The stated water resistance is 10 bar; consult Seiko’s care guidance for appropriate use rather than treating a pressure rating as a guarantee for every water activity.

What does the 6R55 movement offer?
Seiko specifies its 6R55 as an automatic movement with manual winding, 24 jewels and a stop-seconds function. The stop-seconds feature halts the seconds hand when the crown is pulled to set the time, which can help with precise synchronization.
The manufacturer states approximately 72 hours of power reserve, or about three days, and a precision range of +25 to -15 seconds per day. These are Seiko’s specifications, not accuracy measurements from this article or the Monochrome review. The stated reserve means a fully wound watch may continue running through a weekend off the wrist, but actual running time and rate can vary.
