The Seiko Prospex SJE093 is Seiko’s 1965 Diver’s Re-creation Limited Edition, a modern automatic diver explicitly based on the original 62MAS. It combines the vintage watch’s compact 38 mm proportions and angular case design with 200 m water resistance, a box-shaped sapphire crystal and Seiko’s slimline 6L37 movement. Production is limited to 1,965 pieces.
What is the Seiko Prospex SJE093?
The SJE093 is a limited-edition Prospex diver created as a re-creation of Seiko’s 1965 62MAS. Seiko describes the 62MAS as “Seiko’s, and Japan’s, first diver’s watch.” The original had 150 m water resistance and was used by members of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition between 1966 and 1969.

Case and crystal
The stainless-steel case measures 38.0 mm across and 12.5 mm thick. Its integrated, angular lugs preserve the distinctive 1965 silhouette, while the screw-down crown and screw-down case back support the watch’s 200 m diver’s water resistance.

- PADI SPECIAL EDITION: Men's Prospex Sea diver watch features PADI Special Edition details and a durable stainless-steel case.
- AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT: Seiko 4R35 automatic movement with manual winding, 23 jewels, stop-second function, date display, and approximately 41-hour power reserve.
- 200M DIVER'S WATCH: 200m/660ft diver's water resistance, screw-down crown, and screw case back support underwater use.
- SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL: Sapphire crystal with magnifier and inner anti-reflective coating provides enhanced clarity and scratch resistance.
- CERAMIC BEZEL & SILICONE BAND: Stainless-steel bezel with ceramic display and unidirectional rotation pairs with a flexible silicone band.
A box-shaped sapphire crystal replaces the acrylic-style crystal associated with many vintage recreations. The crystal has inner anti-reflective coating, intended to improve legibility without changing the raised, period-inspired profile.
Dial, bezel and strap
The dark gray sunray dial has applied framed markers, a framed date window at 3 o’clock and Lumibrite on the hands and hour markers. Lumibrite is also applied to the bezel pip. A unidirectional bezel provides a 60-minute dive-time scale.

- AUTOMATIC & MANUAL: SRPE05 automatic watches for men power up with your natural movements, and feature the ability to wind manually, with 41 hours of reserve power

- 4R36 CALIBER: equipped with the reliable 4R36 caliber, these precise men’s wrist watches ensure the most accurate timekeeping
Seiko pairs the watch with a high-strength black silicone strap. Specialist specifications report a 19 mm strap width, an unusual measurement that should be checked before buying replacement straps.

Caliber 6L37: the movement inside
The SJE093 uses automatic Caliber 6L37, the first slimline member of Seiko’s 6L family made specifically for a Seiko diver’s watch. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, uses 26 jewels and provides a stated 45-hour power reserve.

- STAINLESS STEEL CASE built to endure with style, making this watch your perfect daily companion
- AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT for seamless precision in every tick of this watch
- SCRATCH-RESISTANT CRYSTAL to maintain a pristine look even with daily wear and tear on your watch

- WATER RESISTANT DESIGN ensuring your watch is ready for any adventure, rain or shine
Seiko says the movement’s construction and materials were modified so that its durability and shock resistance meet Prospex diver standards. Specialist launch coverage gives an advertised accuracy tolerance of -10/+15 seconds per day. That figure describes the published specification; it is not a measured result for every individual watch.
Is the SJE093 a true 62MAS re-creation?
It is a genuine 62MAS-based re-creation in the sense that Seiko identifies the 1965 model as its design source and retains the original’s compact case character, angular lugs and functional diver layout. It is not a component-for-component vintage restoration: the SJE093 adds sapphire, 200 m water resistance, modern Lumibrite and a newly developed movement intended to satisfy current Prospex standards.

How much did the SJE093 cost?
Seiko’s official United States recommended retail price at launch was $3,500. European specialist reports listed a launch price of €3,700 and an August 2023 release at selected retailers.
Those are launch prices, not a September 2026 valuation. Current availability, asking prices and resale premiums are volatile and are not established here; verify the seller, edition number and service history before paying above the original retail price.

Is the SJE093 worth pursuing?
The answer depends on which part of the 62MAS appeal matters most to you.
Reasons to pursue it
- The 38 mm by 12.5 mm case offers a genuinely compact modern diver profile.
- The design is explicitly tied to the 1965 62MAS rather than merely borrowing a vintage color scheme.
- Caliber 6L37 supplies a higher-beat, slimline automatic movement with a 45-hour reserve.
- Sapphire, 200 m water resistance and modern lume make it practical as well as historically styled.
- Only 1,965 watches were produced, matching the year of the original model.
Reasons to hesitate
- The launch price was substantially above Seiko’s more accessible Prospex divers.
- The published -10/+15 seconds-per-day tolerance is a specification, not a guarantee of chronometer-level performance.
- A 19 mm strap width limits replacement choices compared with more common 20 mm diver straps.
- Limited production does not by itself establish a profitable resale value.
A practical buying framework
- Choose the SJE093 if historical fidelity and a small case are higher priorities than maximizing value per dollar.
- Confirm that 38 mm suits your wrist; the short, integrated-lug form can wear differently from a conventional 40 mm case.
- Buy from an authorized Seiko dealer or a clearly identified seller, and check the numbered-edition documentation.
- For a used example, inspect the sapphire crystal, bezel action, crown threads, gasket service and silicone strap before relying on its 200 m rating.
- Compare the asking price with the $3,500 US and €3,700 European launch references, remembering that neither is a current-market quote.
Bottom line on the SJE093
The SJE093 is one of Seiko’s most literal modern 62MAS interpretations: compact at 38 mm, historically recognizable and technically upgraded with sapphire, 200 m resistance and the purpose-built 6L37 automatic movement. Its 1,965-piece limit adds collectability, but the strongest reason to buy is the combination of authentic 1965 proportions and contemporary usability—not an assumed resale gain.
