The Wilbur EXP is an architectural, time-and-date mechanical watch built around a nine-part, automotive-inspired case. The original family’s editions share that design but vary in materials and color: B1 pairs steel and ceramic with blue accents, A1 uses titanium and ceramic, and Dark Mode takes a black-and-gunmetal approach. The EXP’s appeal is its exposed structure and distinctive presence; the main practical questions are whether its square 41.5 mm bezel footprint suits your wrist and whether a specific edition can still be found.
What is the Wilbur EXP?
Wilbur describes the EXP as its original entry point and a daily-wear mechanical watch. The maker says, “The original EXP established the entry point into the WILBUR world.” Revolution Watch characterizes the design as a nine-part case with automotive-inspired skeletonization and a layered dial that gives the watch visual depth. Despite that visual complexity, its function is straightforward: time and date, displayed through a modified automatic movement.
The EXP is not a conventional round watch with an unusually styled bezel. Its case architecture and open-looking construction are central to its identity, making it a better fit for someone seeking a conspicuous design object than for someone who wants an understated everyday watch.
How the original editions differ
Wilbur’s family page lists the original EXP Dark Mode, A, B1, C1 and A1 editions. The maker says these versions share the same architecture, expressed through different materials and finishes. The table below compares the three editions for which the cited official pages provide specific construction and pricing details.
#1 Best Overall
- Sleek & Functional Design: This sophisticated titanium men's watch showcases a distinctive dial layout with dedicated markers for minutes, 12-hour, and 24-hour time displays. Arabic numerals ensure optimal legibility, while the bold red-tipped second hand injects a subtle yet striking accent. The inclusion of a practical date window further elevates its everyday versatility.
- Lightweight & Durable Titanium Construction: Crafted from premium titanium, the case combines brushed and polished finishes for a refined yet rugged aesthetic. Renowned for its featherlight weight and exceptional resilience, titanium offers superior corrosion resistance. The screw-down case back enhances durability.
- Clear AR Coated Sapphire Lens & Super Luminous: Fitted with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, this automatic watch delivers unmatched clarity and scratch resistance. The watch hands coated with super-luminous material for easy readability even in low-light conditions.
- Precision Japanese Movement & 10ATM Water-Resistant: Powered by a precise Miyota 8215 automatic movement, this timepiece ensures accurate timekeeping and long-term reliability. With a 10ATM water resistance rating, it’s built to accompany you on outdoor adventures without compromise.
- Quick-Release Nylon Strap for Comfort: The lightweight nylon strap prioritizes comfort for all-day wear, while the quick-release mechanism allows for effortless strap changes to suit any occasion. Low-maintenance and durable, it’s designed for convenience.
| Edition | Materials and appearance | Bezel dimensions | Production and original listed price | Included straps | Maker-listed status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EXP B1 | Steel exoskeleton, black ceramic case core, blue dial details and matching internal space frame | 41.5 × 41.5 mm (Wilbur’s bezel measurement) | 100 pieces; USD 4,750 (Wilbur edition page) | Pre-curved bright-blue quick-change silicone strap with steel buckle | Sold out |
| EXP A1 | Titanium exoskeleton and case-back, black ceramic case core and bezel, titanium-and-white dial details | 41.5 × 41.5 mm (Wilbur’s bezel measurement) | 100 pieces; USD 4,750 (Wilbur edition page) | Pre-curved black quick-change silicone strap with titanium buckle | Sold out |
| EXP Dark Mode | Gunmetal lugs, black steel case core and case-back, black ceramic bezel, high-contrast dial and internal space frame | 41.5 × 41.5 mm (Wilbur’s bezel measurement) | 12 pieces; USD 6,525 (Wilbur edition page) | Pre-curved black quick-change silicone strap and black ballistic-nylon strap with blue stitching | Sold out |
The 41.5 × 41.5 mm figure is the maker’s measurement across the bezel of a square case, not a round-case diameter. It cannot by itself tell you how the watch will wear: wrist shape, lug and strap geometry, and personal tolerance for a broad case all matter. If possible, try the exact edition on before buying.
The differences are not merely cosmetic. B1’s steel and blue details create the most overt color contrast of these three; A1 substitutes titanium and a white-accented dial, while Dark Mode tones down the palette and has the smallest documented production run. The maker’s listed prices are original edition prices, not current resale values.
Movement and documented specifications
Wilbur describes the B1, A1 and Dark Mode as built in the USA with a modified Swiss automatic movement regulated in-house. Revolution Watch identifies the EXP movement as a modified Sellita and describes the display as time and date. Those are the appropriate broad descriptions of the family; Wilbur’s cited edition pages do not provide the detailed caliber figures listed below.
For the B1 specifically, specialist retailer Watchmakers United identifies a Sellita SW200-1a and lists automatic winding, hours, minutes, seconds and date, a 41-hour power reserve, 28,800 vibrations per hour, 14.8 mm center thickness and 5 ATM water resistance. These are retailer-listed specifications for its B1 listing, not independently verified measurements and not established here for every EXP edition.

Wilbur specifies anti-reflective-coated sapphire crystals on the front and rear for B1, A1 and Dark Mode. The double-sided crystal treatment and visible case architecture reinforce the EXP’s display-oriented design, though the available information does not establish controlled legibility results under different lighting conditions.
What owners and reviewers say about wearing it
A WatchProSite owner who posted on April 12, 2023 after a week with an EXP-A1 called it exceptionally comfortable for its size and described the titanium-and-ceramic watch as light on the wrist. That is one wearer’s subjective impression, not a controlled weight or comfort comparison. It is nevertheless a useful counterpoint to the watch’s substantial-looking case: visual mass does not necessarily tell you how a particular material combination will feel.
A Dialicious community member’s EXP-A review, published July 12, 2024, recounts acquiring the watch and buying two additional straps. Dialicious explicitly frames its ratings and review as that community member’s opinion. Neither account establishes broad owner consensus, long-term reliability or how the watch will fit every wrist.
Revolution Watch’s editorial description—that the EXP is visually complex but functionally simple—captures the central trade-off. The design is the point; the core time-and-date function remains conventional. There is no basis here to make claims about measured accuracy, multi-month reliability, service intervals or service costs.

Price and availability
Wilbur’s family page marks the original A, B1, C1, A1 and Dark Mode editions sold out. Its edition pages list B1 and A1 at USD 4,750 and Dark Mode at USD 6,525, but those figures are original listed prices, not offers currently available from the maker. The maker describes EXP 2.0 as the evolution of the original platform.
Availability information can conflict: Watchmakers United’s B1 listing showed CHF 4,050 and “In stock, ready to ship” when accessed, while Wilbur marks B1 sold out. Retailer stock changes, so verify the exact edition and condition directly before relying on a listing. No current secondary-market price range is established. For pre-owned examples, confirm edition, provenance, condition, included straps and warranty terms with the seller.
For historical context only, Revolution Watch reported a USD 5,125 starting price in its 2023 article, and WatchPro USA reported a USD 4,500–5,150 range at a 2024 trade event. Neither is a current quote; the maker’s edition-specific original prices and the retailer’s live listing are distinct sources and time frames.
Quick Recap
Who should consider the Wilbur EXP?
- Consider it if you want a highly architectural case, visible mechanical-watch styling and a design that stands apart from conventional round watches.
- Compare editions by material, finish, dial color, strap configuration and documented production limit—not just by the shared EXP name.
- Try before buying if possible because the square bezel measures 41.5 × 41.5 mm, and that figure alone does not predict fit.
- Be cautious about specifications when comparing listings: detailed caliber, reserve, beat-rate, thickness and water-resistance figures cited here come from a retailer’s B1 listing, not from Wilbur’s reviewed edition-page text.
- Check availability and terms for the exact edition directly with the maker or seller; sold-out status and retailer stock can differ.
