For this post, we’ll talk about the watches of a former WWE wrestler turned Hollywood action star, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Dwayne Johnson is reportedly the highest-paid actor in 2019. In 2020, he is still among the top 10 highest-paid celebrities in the world. He is well-known for his muscular physique and action-packed movies. Prior to entering the show business, he was a professional wrestler where he used the ring name The Rock. After an eight-year wrestling career, he is considered one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. The Rock is also a producer, businessman, and former American football and Canadian football player.
So how does a muscular man like The Rock choose his watches? In an interview, he shared that he prefers those that are made of durable materials, versatile, and that would fit his lifestyle. He also added that for him, “a watch is a tool” and not a piece of jewelry.

What I most look for in a watch is how it’s made, what goes into it, and of course the design. I prefer materials that will stand the test of time, and my lifestyle of course. Whereas you change your clothes to suit the weather, or what you’re doing or where you’re going, I like a watch that I can wear for any occasion. When I go to a movie premiere, I’m not thinking, ‘what kind of watch goes with this shirt or this jacket?’ For me, a watch is a tool. A good-looking tool, granted, but definitely not a piece of jewellery.

Having said those, we gathered that Panerai seems to be Johnson’s watch brand of choice. Although, of course, he also has a few from other brands such as IWC, Breitling, and Rolex. Following are the watches that made it to The Rock’s collection:

Dwayne Johnson’s Watch Collection

Panerai Luminor Submersible Chrono PAM187

Panerai Luminor Submersible Chrono PAM187

Spotted in his movie Fast and Furious 5 is a Panerai Luminor Submersible Chrono PAM187 (eBay).
This one built with a 316L brushed steel case and bezel, and Caoutchouc (unvulcanized natural rubber) black strap. The bezel, in particular, is rotating anti-clockwise.
More so, the dial is black with luminous hour markers and Arabic numeral 12. It has a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock, and three chronograph subdials. These are powered by an automatic mechanical Panerai OP XII caliber with 27 jewels. Its power reserve lasts up to 46 hours.
It is a limited edition timepiece, with only 1,000 units produced. Also, it is water-resistant up to 1,000 meters.

Panerai Luminor Submersible Chrono PAM187

Panerai Luminor Acciaio PAM000090

Another Panerai seen on The Rock’s wrist is the Panerai Luminor Acciaio PAM000090 (eBay).
It is a 44mm timepiece with a 316L stainless steel case and alligator-textured black leather strap. It also has polished steel that protects the crown.
Its dial is also black with luminous hour markers, and Arabic numerals 6 and 12. It features a power reserve indicator at 5 o’clock, a second-tracker at 9 o’clock, and a date window at 3 o’clock. It uses an automatic self-winding Panerai OP IX caliber movement.
Unfortunately, this particular model is hard to find. However, other variants of Panerai Luminor Acciaio are listed on eBay.

Rolex Sea-Dweller ref.126600

Rolex Sea-Dweller ref.126600

The Rolex Sea-Dweller ref. 126600 is a 43mm stainless steel timepiece with a ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel, and sapphire crystal. It is powered by an automatic caliber 3235 movement with a power reserve of up to 70 hours. Similar to his Panerai watches, its dial is also black with luminous hour markers and hands. It also has a date window at 3 o’clock.

IWC Schaffhausen Big Pilot Heritage (IW501004)

IWC Big Pilot Heritage

Even bigger than the previous watches we listed above is The Rock’s IWC Schaffhausen Big Pilot Heritage IW501004.
It comes with a 46mm titanium case and a brown calfskin strap. It also has a screw-in crown, allowing the watch to have a water resistance of up to 6 bars. Additionally, the timepiece comes with a sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on both sides, and a soft-iron inner case that provides protection from magnetic fields. It is powered by an automatic self-winding IWC 52110 caliber with up to 168 hours of power reserve.

Breitling Transocean Chronograph Unitime

Breitling Transocean Chronograph Unitime

The Rock’s Breitling Transocean Chronograph Unitime is one of the complicated watches in the collection.
At the outer rim, it lists 24 major cities that represent 24 different time zones and even has daylight saving times indicators. It also has a 24-hour disk, hence the wearer can see the time from any time zone simultaneously with the local time. It also has chronograph subdials and a date function between 4 and 5 o’clock.
These features are all powered by Breitling’s in-house movement, caliber B05 automatic movement. Johnson’s Breitling Transocean comes with a rose gold case and brown leather strap, proving that YES, men do wear rose gold watches – and tough, very masculine men at that!
Yet, another version comes with a stainless steel case and steel Milanese bracelet. The dial may either be black or white (Johnson’s is white) with a globe design at the center.
The Transocean is one of our top picks for beginner Breitling collectors.
