The CIGA Design Blue Planet turns its miniature rotating Earth into a single-pointer hours-and-minutes display. It is an art-forward automatic watch that asks you to learn a different way to tell time; Thomas Stover’s 2022 hands-on review found that it became easy to read after acclimation, while also flagging a phantom date position on the crown. The current official listing starts at $1,199 USD and offers 43 mm or 46 mm cases in titanium alloy or steel, but its 3 ATM water resistance and unconventional display make it a more natural statement watch than a tool watch.
How the Blue Planet tells time
The globe is part of the time display, not just a decorative dial. In Thomas Stover’s October 2022 account, the miniature Earth rotates once every 12 hours. A pointer on the globe indicates the hour on a fixed outer ring, while an intermediate minute ring moves so that the same pointer indicates the minutes. CIGA describes the arrangement as an “Asynchronous-Follow” display that brings hours and minutes together at a single point.

That approach replaces the familiar pair of hands with one pointer and multiple moving references. Stover wrote that setting the watch initially felt disorienting; after he learned how to follow the rings, he found it straightforward to read. A new owner should expect a short learning curve rather than assume the display will be immediately intuitive.

CIGA’s international product page, accessed October 4, 2026, lists a current starting price of $1,199 USD and lets buyers select a 43 mm or 46 mm case in titanium alloy or steel. The page’s movement and material details are the manufacturer’s current published specifications; they may not describe the exact version Stover reviewed in 2022.

The official page lists a push-button hidden 316L steel clasp and a total length of 235 mm including the case. Green Nemoto LumiNova is listed for the 46 mm version only. The stated package contents are one watch, one fluororubber strap and one warranty card.
Stover’s 2022 review gave a 40-hour power reserve and an accuracy figure of +30/-15 seconds per day, and noted that the caliber was not specified in the materials available to him. Those are his dated review-era specifications; the current official page names CD-04-E and gives a different lower accuracy bound. The available information does not establish why the figures differ.
What the 2022 hands-on review found
Fit and comfort
Stover reviewed the 46 mm titanium version. He described its curved, lugless case as light on the wrist and said the supple rubber strap was comfortable. Despite the nominal case size, he reported that the lack of lugs helped it wear more like a mid-size watch on his smaller wrist, without discomfort or overhang. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a fit guarantee for other wrists or for every variant.

Display and daily wear
Once accustomed to the pointer and rings, Stover found the time easy to read and praised the globe display’s distinctiveness. He considered the Blue Planet capable of daily wear for someone comfortable with its design, while placing it firmly in the statement- or art-watch category. His summary was: “The CIGA Design Blue Planet does one thing and does it exceptionally well.”
Crown and water-use reservations
Stover’s main interface complaint was a dead or phantom date position when pulling the crown. He felt that this interrupted the otherwise unusual dial-side experience. He also pointed to the 3 ATM rating as appropriate to a statement piece rather than a tool-watch specification. CIGA’s current listing likewise specifies 3 ATM; the evidence here does not establish a more specific water-use limit.
Price, returns and practical buying checks
The $1,199 USD starting price is the price shown on CIGA’s international product page when accessed October 4, 2026; it is not an independently surveyed street price. Confirm the selected size and material, the price shown for that configuration, and the seller’s terms before ordering.

CIGA’s product page states a 15-day return period from receipt. For a return where the product has no quality problem, the buyer bears costs such as freight, customs duties and other charges; the watch and packaging must be unused and in good condition. These are the seller’s live stated terms, not a timeless or universal return policy.
A CIGA Design Europe retailer listing for one titanium configuration specifies a 46 mm case, 15 mm thickness, 22 mm strap width, 3 ATM water resistance and a weight of 72.43 g with the fluororubber strap. Those are retailer-supplied details for that listing, not specifications established for every current variant. The official page confirms an included strap but does not establish a replacement-strap SKU or compatibility dimensions for all versions; do not assume a generic strap will fit based on the retailer’s 22 mm listing.

CIGA says the Blue Planet won the 2021 GPHG Challenge Watch Prize against 208 competing entries and calls it the first Chinese watch in the competition’s history to claim that award. Fratello’s 2022 review also reports the 2021 award and describes CIGA as the first Chinese watch company to win a GPHG award. The entry count and “first” framing are claims attributed here to CIGA and Fratello, rather than independently confirmed against a readable GPHG source.

Is the CIGA Design Blue Planet worth buying?
It makes the strongest case for itself if the moving globe and unconventional one-pointer display are the reason you want the watch. The 2022 reviewer found it readable after learning the system and comfortable on his smaller wrist despite reviewing the 46 mm version, but neither experience guarantees that it will suit every buyer. Its 3 ATM rating, statement-watch character and crown-position criticism are meaningful trade-offs if you want a straightforward, water-oriented daily tool. The current choice between 43 mm and 46 mm, and titanium alloy and steel, gives buyers variant options, but the evidence here does not establish a direct competitor comparison.
