The dial is the collection’s most recognizable feature: a precise minute-track layout, dot indices, and hands with distinct stepped tips. NOMOS says the hand tips may evoke the Empire State Building and that the crown’s diamond knurling recalls watchmaking tools. Braun described the dial as “complex, yet archetypal and immediately recognizable,” and said its concentrated row of numerals in the minute track is a metaphor for precision. The collection’s slender profile, domed sapphire crystal, and wire lugs contribute to the overall look, though measurements and details should be checked against the individual reference.

Is the NOMOS Metro automatic or hand-wound?
Both. Metro includes manually wound watches and automatic neomatik models. The name of the family alone does not identify the winding system or caliber; match the movement to the reference and the date of its specification.
Hand-wound Metro 38 date, reference 1102
In a November 3, 2025 announcement, NOMOS said the 38.5 mm Metro 38 date returned with hand-wound caliber DUW 4601. The movement includes the NOMOS swing system, a quick-set date, and a stated power reserve of 52 hours. NOMOS said the exterior design was unchanged from the earlier model. Automatic Metro neomatik, reference 1106
A NOMOS datasheet for reference 1106 identifies automatic caliber DUW 3001, a 35.0 mm case diameter, 8.0 mm height, water resistance up to 3 atm, and a maximum power reserve of 43 hours. The sheet is marked “Status as of October 2018,” so treat these as historical, reference-specific figures rather than confirmation of current specifications. How do Metro 38 and Metro neomatik differ?
They describe different configurations, not interchangeable names for one watch. Metro 38 date reference 1102 is hand-wound and, in NOMOS’s 2025 announcement, measures 38.5 mm and uses DUW 4601. Metro neomatik reference 1106 is automatic and its October 2018 datasheet gives a 35.0 mm diameter and DUW 3001. The documented power reserves also differ, but they come from different reference-specific sources and dates.

These labels distinguish meaningful differences in size, dial, case material, winding, and complications. A model name alone may not reveal every specification, so use the reference number when checking a watch’s details.
What size is the NOMOS Metro?
There is no single Metro case size. The examples documented here include a 35.0 mm Metro neomatik 1106 and a 38.5 mm Metro 38 date 1102. The collection list also includes Metro 33, neomatik 39, and neomatik 41 models. Those numbers identify different models; they should not be substituted for a reference-specific case measurement. The cited 2018 datasheet gives the 1106 a height of 8.0 mm, while the 2025 Metro 38 date announcement does not state its height.

What to check before choosing a Metro
Use the reference number rather than the collection name to compare a particular Metro. Confirm the following from a current listing or manufacturer specification:
- Winding and caliber: determine whether it is hand-wound or automatic and verify the movement named for that reference.
- Case dimensions: check diameter and thickness; do not infer the measurement from “33,” “38,” “39,” or “41” in the model name alone.
- Complications: confirm whether the watch has a date, power-reserve display, or neither.
- Dial and case: verify the exact color and material; some Metro variants have distinct dial colors or rose-gold cases.
- Water resistance and reserve: use the figures for that exact reference, noting the date of the specification.
- Regional availability: model listings and prices can change by market; a collection-page entry does not establish local stock or a universal current price.
Design recognition and what is documented
NOMOS’s Metro family page names Good Design, Red Dot, and German Design Award recognition, but the material cited there does not specify years or award categories. No independent market, accuracy, durability, or ownership statistic is established by the cited sources, so those should not be inferred from the collection’s design reputation.
