Marc Jacobs Watch Review – Are They Good Quality Watches?

Marc Jacobs is a fashion brand was created by the fashion designer who initially showcased his clothing line in downtown NYC.  Marc Jacobs watches were originally created by the Fossil. However, Marc Jacobs terminated that license agreement with the Fossil group to make way for a license agreement with Bedrock manufacturing, the company behind Shinola.  
The brand is a well respected and awarded fashion designer but some shoppers question if a clothes designer can also make quality watches.  To answer that question, let’s take a closer look at the collection and find out more about the Marc Jacobs watches.

Marc Jacobs Brand History

Marc Jacobs is a fashion designer who started manufactured clothing for men and women starting in 1993 later expanding into handbags, fragrances, cosmetics, books, and watches.
In 2004, Marc Jacobs had a license agreement with the Fossil group to manufacture the watches for his brand.
In 2018  Marc Jacobs terminated the license contract with the Fossil group for his watches and began working with Bedrock manufacturing for its watches.

The strap is a polished PVD to protect it from superficial scratches, so the gold strap stays smooth. Marc Jacobs is a multi-awarded designer with unique watch designs. However, as a fashion watch, you might just be paying extra for the design and name recognition, rather than newer and better watch technology. Moreover, Marc Jacobs watches have the same quartz movement for all of their watches with parts from either Japan or Switzerland. Even though there has been a change for the new collection of Marc Jacobs, the technology remains the same and no new feature has been added to the watch.
The main selling point of the Marc Jacobs watch is the design and brand itself. Moreover, people buy this watch for fashion above all else. most of the watches in the brand’s collection are single function watches with quartz movement, although they have introduced a line of hybrid smartwatches.

Their watches are mostly for a younger demographic including watch-buying Millenials which helps explain the brand’s youthful and urban watch designs. However, its quartz movement may not attract serious watch collectors who are after the watch itself and not just the style.

Is Marc Jacobs A Good Watch Brand?

It depends on who you ask. For serious watch collectors, the brand doesn’t even get mentioned as the brand gets bunched together with other designer fashion watch brands. On the other hand, if you ask fashion watch enthusiasts and the younger crowd, they may prefer the design and name recognition regardless of the watch movement.
However, if you want a high-quality watch with better movement, you might want to look at brands such as Timex, Seiko, Citizen, Bulova, Orient, or maybe invest a little more and get something like a Hamilton or Tissot. These brands may have either Japanese or Swiss technology and a long history in the watchmaking industry. They do not offer the name brand recognition among fashion-conscious buyers that appreciate the Marc Jacobs brand name, bu those mentioned brands also have very stylish watches with the added benefit of a long history of making watches.   
If you just want a watch for fashion, then this Marc Jacobs watch might be what you are looking for. It is somehow a good watch brand as its watches were manufactured by Fossil and now by Bedrock with decades of watch manufacturing experience for notable fashion brands.

Marc Jacobs Watch Warranty

The warranty of Marc Jacobs watches varies due to the change in manufacturer. Nevertheless, both of their watch manufacturers offer 2 years of international warranty for purchased watches. The warranty covers faulty craftsmanship of the watch mechanism with normal use. However, the warranty does not cover for normal wear and tear of the watch. Negligence of use, improper handling, attempted repairs, and other incidents that are beyond the control of the manufacturer.
Moreover, the watches are only water-resistant until a specified depth and duration, so any water damage beyond that will not be covered by their warranty. The battery, straps, buckles, and other parts of the watch are not covered by the warranty. Proof of purchase is necessary to avail of the warranty coverage for Marc Jacobs watches. But, if the damage is not covered by the warranty, Marc Jacobs service center may still repair your watch for a fee.
