The Watches Matthew McConaughey Has Worn On Screen
TAG Heuer Grand Carrera GMT Calibre 8RS
In the 2011 legal thriller The Lincoln Lawyer, McConaughey wore a TAG Heuer Grand Carrera GMT Calibre 8RS. His particular timepiece comes with a 42.5mm stainless steel case and brown alligator strap, it features a second timezone shown through a rotating system at 6 o’clock and a date display at 12 o’clock.
The Grand Carrera is powered by a self-winding automatic movement, and is rated 10 ATM for its water resistance. Such a sleek and stylish timepiece seems apt for McConaughey’s role as a rich man’s lawyer Mick Haller.
TAG Heuer Monaco CW2111
McConaughey wore another TAG Heuer timepiece in his role as advertising executive Benjamin Barry in the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Specifically, it was a TAG Heuer Monaco CW2111.
Such a watch was quite easy to identify because of its square case with a black dial. The case and bezel are both made of stainless steel. McConaughey’s timepiece comes with a leather strap but you may also opt for a steel bracelet. Its analog display comes with a chronograph and a date function at 6 o’clock powered by an automatic caliber 17 movement. Its water resistance is only up to 30 meters.

Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day Date
As Joseph Cooper in the 2014 sci-fi adventure movie Interstellar, McConaughey opted to showcase a Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day-Date.
This unobtrusive tool watch fits his role as a NASA pilot as the Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day Date is considered a top pilot watch.
This aviation-inspired timepiece has a sleek black dial and a 42mm steel case with an in-house mechanical caliber of 2834-2 automatic movement.
It powers a date window at 6 o’clock and a spelled-out day window at 12 o’clock. It also features Arabic numerals and superluminova hands, covered with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. It is also water-resistant up to 100m.
The Khaki Pilot is one of many Hamilton watches appearing in Hollywood movies.
Rip Curl Ultimate Oceansearch
For the 2008 action-adventure film Fool’s Fold, McConaughey played Benjamin Finnegan, a deep-sea treasure hunter. He needed a watch built for the waters, making the Rip Curl Ultimate Oceansearch a fitting choice.
This digital watch is feature-packed with a compass, alarm, stopwatch, dual time, countdown, timer, and a pre-programmed moon phase. If you are a surfer looking for a good watch, you’d be delighted to know that it is also equipped with 200 pre-programmed beaches, an automatic tide system, and a future tide function. It features a titanium case, screw-in caseback, a hardened mineral crystal, and a polyurethane strap. More so, its water resistance is up to 200 meters deep.
Doxa Sub 600T Professional (Clive Cussler Edition)
McConaughey played the role of Dirk Pitt in the movie adaptation of Sahara in 2005. This action-adventure movie was based on the novel written by Clive Cussler. The marine engineer and former Air Force pilot Dirk Pitt was described wearing a Doxa diver watch with an orange dial even in the book. It was only appropriate that McConaughey wore a Doxa Sub 600T Professional, Clive Cussler edition.
This particular version of Sub 600T is a limited edition, with only about 3,000 pieces sold. In addition to being vibrant, its orange dial also has a vintage look with markers and hands in black and luminous white. It also has a date window at 3 o’clock. The dial is covered with a 3mm anti-reflective sapphire crystal window. Its rotating diver bezel comes with feet graduations, similar to the 300T. Even its movement is similar to 300T – the automatic ETA 2824-2 with 25 jewels and 42 hours of power reserve.
In the 2018 crime-drama film Gold, McConaughey performed as Kenny Wells, a desperate prospector who teamed up with a geologist to find gold in Indonesia. To personate a broke prospector, he wore an inexpensive gold Casio A159WGEA-5. This simple timepiece is quite common and is widely available.
Overall, Casio A159WGEA-5 has a retro look with its case and strap made of gold-plated stainless steel. Moreover, the case is tonneau-shaped with a digital display and covered with mineral crystal glass. Being a simple watch, its functions are also pretty basic – day, date, alarm, and stopwatch. Powering the digital display, its functions, and the background light is a quartz movement.
